The Shawnee Playhouse presents the Northeast Ballet Ensemble’s THE NUTCRACKER.
One of the world’s most famous ballets, and the undisputed favorite of all Western nations, THE NUTCRACKER has been enchanting audiences for over 100 years.
On Christmas Eve, Clara and her family host a party with friends. Clara’s mysterious godfather gives her a toy Nutcracker. She is overjoyed, but her jealous little brother breaks the gift.
Late that night, Clara wakes to find an army of mice attacking her Nutcracker. It comes to life, defends Clara, and defeats the Mouse King. The Nutcracker is transformed into a prince, who takes Clara to a magical world of dancing snowflakes and angels. They are welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy, who leads dancers from all nations and confections in celebration. After the festivities, though, Clara must return to her own world.
With music by the great master Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and original choreography by Diane Verdi of the Northeast Ballet Ensemble, THE NUTCRACKER is a brilliant Christmas treat for the entire family, full of grace, magic, and wonder.
